Furled leaders

There have been many, many formulas for leaders and each seems to have its own definite advantages and disadvantages.  Gone are the braided horsehair leaders with the onset synthetic materials.  The quest for better strategies and equipment has led us back to an old stand-by with a new twist; furled leaders with tying threads.  Kathy Scott, an accomplished fly fisher and author of "Moose in the Water, Bamboo on the Bench" has graciously sent us detailed instructions (very detailed!!) on how to make your own furled leaders using very simple tools and materials.  Try one and you might just get hooked!!!

Many thanks to Kathy Scott!!

Ceaning pads

With all of the gin-clear water we experienced last year I've taken to doing is wiping my tippet down with one of those Scientific Anglers line cleaning pads.  At first I was afraid to use 'em on my fly lines because they are slightly abrasive.  So, in boredom one day, I took a swipe on a section of tippet just to see what would happen.  As I expected, the shine and sparkle came right off.  It does seem to add to the 'stealth' factor while trying for spooky fish.

Thanks to Jack Cummings for this great tip!!
