2005 MFFC CONSERVATION FUND

The recipients of Michigan Fly Fishing Club's 2005 conservation grants have been announced. The $30,200 budgeted for this year's granting program has been allocated to the following organizations and projects:

  • Upper Manistee River Restoration Committee
    Grant: $3,500.00
    Project: Replace and service sediment traps and stabilize and eliminate sources of sedimentation on the Upper Manistee River between Cameron Bridge and Mancelona roads.

  • Huron Pines Resource Conservation and Development Area Council
    Grant: $5,000.00 Project: AuSable River South Branch Culvert Replacement - Replace culvert on Old SR 76 south of M-18, Roscommon County.

  • Huron Pines Resource Conservation and Development Area Council, $500.00
    Grant: $3,500.00 Project: Place large woody debris (LWD) in-stream habitat structures at various locations along the main branch of the AuSable and develop a "River Keeper" position to engage more people and organizations in the conservation effort.

  • Huron Pines Resource Conservation and Development Area Council
    Grant: $3,500.00
    City of Grayling stormwater project.

  • Conservation Resource Alliance Grant: $5,000.00
    Project: Pere Marquette Headwaters Bank Stabilization - Stop erosion along five sites on the Baldwin River.

  • Upper Black River Restoration Committee
    Grant: $5,000.00 Project: Place large woody debris (LWD) in-stream habitat structures at various locations along the Black River and major tributaries to enhance brook trout habitat.

  • Vanguard Chapter of Trout Unlimited
    Grant: $3,700.00 Project: Clinton River Coldwater Conservation Project - Map the Clinton and its tributaries from Lake Orion to Sterling Heights.

  • Lake Superior State University
    Grant: $1,000.00 Project: Educational Studies Grant - Help defray expenses associated with a students thesis concerning dietary changes of resident Two Hearted River trout during the non-winter months.

Serving on the 2005 Conservation Committee were Chair Joe Sprys, Directors Mark Hendricks and Jeff Parker, and Members Eric Center, Doyle Letson, Terry Herron and Eric Zadorecky.
