The recipients of Michigan Fly Fishing Club's 2006 conservation grants have been announced. The $25,000.00** budgeted for this year's granting program has been allocated to the following organizations and projects:

- Upper Manistee River Restoration Committee
Grant: $3,500.00
Project: Replace and service sediment traps and stabilize and eliminate sources of sedimentation on the Upper Manistee River.
- Huron Pines Resource Conservation and Development Area Council
Grant: $3,000.00
Project: North Branch Au Sable River Bio-Engineering Demonstration Project which repairs streambank erosion.

Big Sable Watershed Streambank Inventory - Update the inventory of streambanks that need to be or have been repaired.

Grant: $4,000.00
Project: In-Stream "Whole Tree Cover"; Place large woody debris (LWD) in-stream habitat structures at various locations along the Black River and major tributaries to enhance brook trout habitat.
- Masistee County Library - Linda Scribner along with Susan Wess, Manistee County Librarians
Grant: $1,000.00
Project: Purchase conservation, ecology and fly fishing books for the Manistee County Library.

Serving on the club's 2006 Conservation Committee were: .

** MFFC members at the March 15 meeting overwhelmingly supported $1,500 in additional conservation funding to be directed to the Anglers of the AuSable and that organization's efforts spearheading legal challenges to activities involving Kolke Creek and the Mason Tract. The action raises the amount of MFFC support for conservation programs and projects in 2006 to $26,500.
