Plan to spend a day with members of the Michigan Fly Fishing School learning the basic application of Fly Fishing Mythologies:
Casting for the BEGINNER or Tree Avoidance Etiquette
- Equipment balance - rod, reel, line, leader, tippet, and the FLY
- Casting Process - rod position, pick-up, back cast, the drift, forward cast,
and the presentation
- Casting posture
- Practicing methods
- Rod griping techniques
- Discuss / Demonstrate - basic cast, roll cast, mending, reach cast,
wiggle cast.
Equipment, Knots, and Stuff
- Equipment ideologies for a successful day on the water - line, rod, reel
terminology; lines / leaders / tippets and how they are sized to the fly and
fish
- Knots - terminology; where to use basic knots to rig a system and those
needed or use while spending a day on the water
- Stuff - Etiquette, where to go, Catch and Release methods, reading the
water, how to measure a fish
Entomology / Hatches / Fly Tying
- Entomology for Fishing Application
- Lower Michigan's (bugs) Hatches
- Fly Tying Basics - Equipment, materials, hooks, fly parts - Mayflies and
Caddisflies
- Identify base flies to cary on the stream...some will work...
All equipment for fly tying and casting is provided, catered lunch included. Just bring yourself, friends & relatives, under 18 must be accompanied adult.
